18. Jesus Heals a Blind Man
Jesus walked down the street. A man sat beside the street. The man was blind. He could not work. He had to beg for money. The man had always been blind. He was born that way.
Someone asked Jesus a question. He said, "Why is this man blind? Did he do wrong or his parents?" He thought God made the man blind. He thought the blind man was being punished.
Jesus said, "He did not do wrong. His parents did not do wrong. God wants to work in his life."
Jesus stopped. He spit in the dirt. He mixed the dirt into mud. He put the mud on the man’s eyes. He said, "Go to the pool and wash."
The man did what Jesus said. Someone helped him find the pool. He washed the mud from his eyes. He could see when the mud was gone. It was the first time in his life he could see.
The leaders of the people did not like Jesus. They were jealous of Him. They did not believe Jesus made the blind man well. They asked the blind man. He told them Jesus made him well. They still did not believe.
The leaders asked the man’s parents. His parents were afraid of the leaders. They said, "This man is our son. He was born blind. We do not know what made him well."
The leaders said they did not know how he got well either. They said that Jesus was a bad man.
The man who had been blind did not like this. He said, "Jesus cannot be a bad man. He made me see. He could only heal me if God helped Him. God would not help a bad man."
He argued with the leaders. They told him to go away. They did not want him near them.
Jesus came to the man. He said, "Do you believe on the Son of God?"
The man said, "Who is He, Lord."
Jesus said, "I am the Son of God."
The man said, "I believe." He was now one of Jesus’ friends.
People need to believe in Jesus. Jesus can give new life to all who believe in Him.
