Lesson 56

John 14:1-4

[1] Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. [2] In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. [4] And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Background Information
This is a much loved passage of Scripture. As such, it has been quoted and discussed often.

One issue that is debated is the meaning of the word “mansions” in verse 1. Most newer Bible translations don’t use “mansions.” The Greek word translated here technically refers to rooms or dwelling places (from the lexical section of Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible). While we may or may not have separate houses in Heaven, we can be sure that each of God’s children will have a place of his or her own. We can also be sure that those places will be wonderful.
