Lesson 5: John 1:15-18

John 1:15-18
John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses,
but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Background Information
The “law” referred to here is to the
Law of Moses. The Law of Moses is found in the first five books of the Old Testament. God gave it to the famous Jewish leader, Moses, shortly before the nation of Israel settled in Palestine about 1500 years prior to the events recorded here. God gave Moses the law to teach moral principles and to show how difficult it was for humans to obey God in our own strength. As a result of the law, we can clearly understand our need for Jesus.
