Easter Thought
The old folk hymn “Were You There?” recently reminded me of the real meaning of Easter. In recalling that Jesus died, was buried, and rose from the dead, it says: “O! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.” Most of us don't literally tremble when we think about Jesus' death and resurrection, but those events and their results are big enough to tremble over. The Son of God submitted to death by torture to take the punishment our rebellion had earned. Then He came back to life, giving us forgiveness and eternal life.
The Bible says: “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:10) This wonderful gift was paid for in blood by Jesus Christ but is given to us individually in return for simple faith. It really is big enough to leave a person shaky.
